Website Content Audit Checklist

This is an audit on my new site taht I am designing. It can be found here.

Because the site is new, some pages are missing and content is patchy.

ACCOUNTABILITY Determine what the site is about and who is responsible for it
   
[Y] Identity [Can a visitor tell in five seconds or less what the site is about?]
[Y] Ownership [Is it clear who owns the site?]  
[Y] Authorship [Who is responsible for informational content? Are their credentials provided?]  
[Y] Attribution [Are sources cited where appropriate?]    
 


RELIABILITY Check for accuracy and credibility -- the Trust Test
   
[N] Freshness [Is a last date of update clearly visible?]
[Y] Style [Is the writing style appropriate for the content and the audience?]
[Y] Usage [Are spelling and grammar correct throughout?]
[N] Contact [Are contact e-mail addresses current and easy to find?]
     


READABILITY Content that is hard to read won't be read
   
[Y] Colors [Do text and background colors contrast sharply?]
[Y] Layout [Short paragraphs, short line lengths, plenty of white space?]
[Y] Fonts [Do font style and size make text easy to read?]
[Y] Graphics [Do graphics draw attention to the content? Do graphics match content?]


MICROCONTENT The deity is in the details
   
[Y] Titles [Do page titles accurately describe the content?]
[Y] Headlines [Do they generate interest in the content?]
[Y] Keywords [Will a search engine spider know what the site is about?]
[Y] Links [Is link text concise and descriptive? Do the links enhance content or interfere?]
[N] Captions [Are they informative and concise?]


MAINTENANCE Don't overlook the fine details -- your visitors won't
   
[Y] Speed [Will visitors stay long enough for pages to download?]
[N] Currency [Are copyright dates current? Any outdated time references?]
[N] Validity [Do all links still point to active pages?]
[N] Search [Does your site show up where it should in search engines?]
