Week 4 Review Questions

  1. Describe two different ways to add a new layer.
Select New Raster/Vector Layer from the Layers menu, or click the corresponding button in the Layer Palette

  2. What does flattening an image refer to?
Merging all the layers into one.

  3. You have a layer and you would like to copy it exactly (duplicate). How would you go about doing this?
After making sure you have selected the layer to be duplicated in the Layer Palette, select Duplicate Layer from the Layers menu or right click on the layer in the Layer Palette and select Duplicate from the context menu.

  4. PSP allows you to Lock Transparency on a layer. What does locking transparency accomplish? What does it do?
Locking transparency makes sure that if you are working on a layer, you can not draw or fill the area which is defined as transparent on that layer. Good for preventing mistakes!

  5. How would you bring a layer to the top?
I personally prefer to arrange the order of layers by dragging them in the Layer Palette, however you can use the Layers menu to Bring to front or Send to back.
