Issue 3 ~ October 2000

Editorial

Firstly I'd like to congratulate Garrin, Tigeress and Dione on winning the GL elections (PS for a chuckle go check the scribe website for Dione and Garrin's histories ). The past few weeks have been kind of slack as far as news goes, so this issue isn't quite as long as 2. However we have some goodies in store, take a look. There is no news from the Front lines as Oligar has not shown his head to any extent. Be sure to read Twiggies Tidings as there is important information about the recent changes to the charter. Also debuting in this issue is the Guild Interview article, where we take your average Joe Ranger and let them have their say.
As usual if you have any feedback or ideas, send me a pigeon. ThorinaUK

Enjoy

Guild Interest ~ The New Mentor Program

Hola!

Well, after much revamping and retooling I have finally gotten the new mentor program up, and now, with this going out to you, running.

The program will now be team oriented. In what I mean by this is, there are five team leaders, Damsie, Snazzle, LadyJessica, Evarin and myself. All are of the Guardian mentor rank within the program, but being a guardian mentor does not mean you are an automatic team leader. I want to keep the number of teams at five, unless we have some unforeseen influx of mentors and we need another. Thus, some Guardian Mentors would serve on these teams also, but not be the team leader.

The Ranks of the program are:

Training Mentor
Ranger Mentor
Honoured Mentor
Dedicated Mentor (Can train new mentors)
Guardian Mentor (Can train new mentors, approve applications, assign students to other mentors, be team leaders of program)

Ranks are not for life, and you can always move up in the program.

Their are many reasons behind the structuring of the program this way, one of which is training the future Mentor's GL about the program, so, when I step down, lose an election or die, the next Mentor GL can just step in and take off right were the program left off. There would be no more lag time between GLs and we will have a smooth running program where everyone knows what is going on, who is being taught, who graduated, etc.....

Paperwork is a part of the job now, with forms and such for mentor's to fill out when they get a new student or graduate one. So, this is not a cake job.

The Mentors, and team leaders, are as follows:

Team One--Halbringer Team Two--Snazzle
Name Rank Name Rank
Destyni Dedictated Mentor Qrit Ranger Mentor
Braxus Ranger Mentor Heavenli Training Mentor
Tyka Ranger Mentor Terrent Ranger Mentor
Team Three--Damsie
Name Rank
Tanaren Ranger Mentor
Jana Honoured Mentor
Gorlak Training Mentor
Team Four--LadyJessica Team Five--Evarin
Name Rank Name Rank
Heiken Dedicated Mentor Ringdancer Honoured Mentor
Garrin Training Mentor Dione Ranger Mentor

It will take a little while to get all the kinks out, but bear with us. This program has good potential and hopefully will better the guild as a whole.

Please contact myself if you have any questions.

Applications are also being accepted and can be found at the following site. This site also explains more about the program.

Thanks for all your time and patience,

Halbringer

Guild Interview - Dancingthunder
By Ringdancer

What made you choose the Rangers Guild over all the other choices available? The ranger guild is devoted to brotherhood and protection and these are two qualities important to me as well.

What are your goals as a Ranger Guild member? I wouldn't say that I have any set goals. I am happy when I move up in guild levels and I love to meet my fellow Rangers when exploring the land.

How did you feel when you finally found the Guild? ::G:: The same way I feel EVERYTIME I find the guild ::Phew!::

What did you feel when you killed the stag? I felt kind of guilty. He was such a pretty animal.

Have you ever regretted becoming a Ranger Guild member? What's to regret? We have the best of all worlds... the Druid's respect for nature, Knight's will to protect, Wizard's ability with magic. All of these qualities together and we are better still for our camaraderie with each other and all in the realm.

Who do you think influences you in all aspects as a Ranger Guild Member? Hmm. I think Galdor would be my influence. He has taught me so much about being a Ranger, and he does it so that I truly earn things on my own. That is rare.

Can you tell me a little about your history, and if it had any help in your decision to become a Ranger Guild member? About 50 years ago I was a Wizard and I didn't feel quite fulfilled as such. Back then the Rangers weren't a recognised guild, but always appealed to me. They had a unique and practical outlook and a solid mantra.

In your opinion, what is the ultimate Ranger Guild member's weapon? ::laughs:: I just have a Dark Web Bow and a Glowing Long Bow, so far these have suited me well.

What do you think should be focused on the most in the Guild, as to what is available in training, items, and activities for the members? ::ponders:: Warcraft has really improved my skills all around as far as fighting goes. But I am not one to ask about these things... I'm still a novice is so many arenas

How much influence do you think Ranger Guild Mentors have on younger members of the Guild? I don't even know that I've met a Ranger Guild Mentor... have I?

Did any Ranger Mentor make an impact on you more than most? ::taps her fingers against her lips::

Did your parents explain to you, the meaning of your name? If so, could you tell us? Thunder is the powerful rumbling of the heavens... I brought it dancing when I was born. ::g::

Tidings from Twiggie

Greetings Rangers! I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your part in our smooth GL election. As I've told some, one of my goals is to encourage more display of Ranger Pride in all of us. While diversity helps make each of us what we are and adds greatly to the depth of our Redwood, there are certain things that we all hopefully have in common. It's been really nice to not have to wade through knee-deep mud and bear the embarrassment of dirty laundry aired in public {{shudders}}. To any of you that say there's nothing you can do, or think that no one cares what you do, I say "Bah!" ::g::. All of our actions reflect in some way upon our Guild. It really doesn't take much to keep that in mind and it truly does benefit all of us.

What have we been doing besides counting ballots? Well, we've been working hard to get all the various magical web pages updated and accessible. Many thanks to Snazzle, Thorina and Alantha for their efforts. The Guild Charter has been updated and is now available on our Guild's web page. We've also been sending out Welcome Packs. If you encounter a newcomer, please feel free to refer them to a GO to receive one. As you may know, soon a new magical portal will be opening; Terris will be moving to the web! We've been gathering info. for that and it's not too late if you have any Guild tales you'd like included.

Halbringer & Thorina have been refining their Programs. It's really exciting to see the Mentors Program taking shape once again! If you'd like a Mentor, please don't hesitate to contact Halbringer or other GO. If you haven't yet, be sure to check the Scribe's new office; Thorina is now saving all of your histories that are shared on the message board. All the many histories recorded previously by Iochtar will be retained in our Archives. By the time you read this, we'll hopefully have three new GLs. Thank you for your patience in getting through this trying time, we'll be full force once again very soon!

Our Guild Tournament has been delayed to get through the elections, but will be held as soon as we get settled a bit. As always, my door is open. I welcome your suggestions, concerns, ideas, etc.
Hugs,
Twiggie

GL Spotlight ~ Thorina

Q How much has changed since you first were a newcomer to the guild?
A An awful lot. When I was a young ranger the guild was 5 rooms, we had no shops, the heroes Zargof and Syrai dropped recall rings occasionally, else you had to walk. I think the best thin was the sense of achievement I got when presented with my IRB by Zargof. All that hard work paid off.

Q If you had it to do over again would you become a ranger?
A Yes.

Q What is your most fulfilling aspect of being the guild scribe?
A The fact that I can point to my website and say, I created that and it helps people to understand more about the guild.

Q As scribe what are your duties? Do you just sit and copy down stuff all day?
A Firstly I maintain the scribe website which contains archives of the ranger guild news and histories of many, many rangers, past and present.
Secondly I distribute important information via the notice board and egroup, such as the charter and rezz policy.
I also have general GL duties, answering queries in the lands, helping people earn their IRB's, luck buying and helping newcomers.

Q Would you rather be in one of the other GL positions? If so which?
A I rather like being scribe. I don't think I'd voluntarily change to another GL spot unless forced to do so, then it would be Mentors or Newcomers as I am good with the young rangers.

Q Which is your favourite type of Alcohol?
A Guinness or Prae's revenge.

Q What do you enjoy most about being the Guild Scribe?
A The huge amount of positive feedback I have been given for the quest I set for the IRB string.

Q What do you enjoy least about it?
A As GL you have NO privacy or time to yourself at all. I didn't realise quite how this would affect me until I became one. When you're a GL you're always there for the guild. Satisfying in one way, annoying in another.

Ask Aunty Edea

Dear Aunty Edea

I am on the horns of a dilemma. I am in love with a beautiful woman but she is a vampire. I snuggle up to her but she always is looking under my ranger hood for a spot on my neck. Do you think she loves me.
victim

Dear soon to be bloodless:

Victim you must run as fast as your ranger feet can fly. I think you're her next meal. She leave you sad and very pale. Look in the temples for a nice girl.

Edea

Dear Aunty

I am in love with two fellas. They are both really cool. One comes to the lands in the day and one comes to the lands in the night. They dont know about each other but others in the realms are starting to talk. I dont know which to choose, one is cute and has lots of money and is a ranger. The other is a powerful warrior and I never die with him. What to do.

Perplexed

Dear player

You go girl. I have never had that problem; I take my men one at a time. ::g::
I am loyal to all my men. I would make a decision that would include life with your ranger. He seems the way to go, money and the like which appears to be your most important aspect. I think you should re-evaluate your ideas of love and commitment and stop being the material girl.

Edea

Garrin challenged folks with clues as they tried to Name That Ranger. He had a couple that really had them stumped for awhile! LadyJessica scored highest with 9 points and Gorlak was right behind her with 8 points.

Dione held one of her fun-filled games of Pictionary! Danalon and Ringdancer displayed their talents at deciphering the creative drawings.

Gorlak's Eagle Eye Contest got off to late start, but they had fun. Montalin missed the first 3 questions and still managed to take first place! Garrin came in a close second. LadyJessica and Atax had a tie-breaker question for 3rd place with LadyJ edging Atax out.

Takashka's recent Brainteaser gave many a headache ::g::, but Alantha somehow survived it and was the only one to figure out correctly. Well done Alantha!

Bailen tried a new drinking contest, challenging the drinkers to come up with words in specific categories.

Though we ended with a score of zero, Rangers made a good showing in Jazzir's Landwide Competition! Miercole stumped us when he asked to name the current guides in the Temple of Despair. Though we fought bravely, the roomful of Skeletal Hydra, Undead Dragons, Spawns, Varnius and Fire giant warriors got the best of us.
